Product Description
Defender LL6270 Low-Level Carbon Monoxide Monitor
The Defender LL6270 low-level carbon monoxide monitor helps you see and respond to low concentrations of CO in your home. It automatically displays detected CO from 5 ppm, provides a timed visual alert at 9 ppm, and begins timed audible warnings at 15 ppm. Its digital display, peak-level memory and sealed lithium batteries make it a practical choice for homeowners seeking additional low-level CO monitoring.
Note: The LL6270 provides automatic low-level CO monitoring and is not UL listed. It is intended to supplement a UL-listed residential CO alarm, such as the Defender CA6150. Choose a listed alarm appropriate for your property’s installation requirements.
Why Choose the Defender LL6270?
- See low CO readings automatically: The display shows detected concentrations from 5 to 500 ppm without requiring you to press a button for the current reading.
- Receive warnings based on concentration and time: Visual and audible signals escalate as CO concentrations increase. Displaying a reading and sounding an alarm are separate functions.
- Review previous CO readings: Recall the highest detected level from the last 30 days and the duration recorded near that peak.
- Avoid routine battery changes: Factory-sealed lithium batteries are non-removable. The monitor and batteries carry a three-year limited factory warranty.
- Keep the monitor securely mounted: A mounting plate and screw secure the unit; attaching it to the plate activates the batteries.
- Choose a manufacturer-tested instrument: Defender states that every LL6270 is tested at eight CO concentrations during production and verified by quality control. Manufactured in Canada.
Display, Alert and Alarm Timing
The following manufacturer-specified response times apply to the listed detected CO concentrations. A 5 ppm reading does not trigger an audible alarm.
| CO level | Response | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| 5 ppm | Low-level display | Within 1 minute |
| 9 ppm | Visual alert | Within 10 minutes |
| 15 ppm | Audible alert | Within 60 minutes |
| 25 ppm | Visual alert / audible alarm | Visual alert within 1 minute; audible alarm within 30 minutes |
| 50 ppm | Audible alarm | Within 15 minutes |
| 100 ppm | Audible alarm | Within 5 minutes |
| 150 ppm | Audible alarm | Whenever detected |
Follow the owner's manual whenever a warning or alarm occurs. The table describes device behavior; it does not define a safe exposure level.
Which Defender Model Should You Buy?
Choose LL6270 when you want automatic low-level CO readings and timed low-level warnings in addition to your residential CO alarm. Defender identifies this supplemental monitoring as particularly relevant for households with young children, pregnant women, older adults or people with medical conditions who may be more vulnerable to CO exposure. It cannot guarantee protection for every individual.
Choose CA6150 when you need a UL-listed residential CO alarm with a digital readout. Its ability to display low readings should not be confused with the LL6270's low-level warning behavior. View the Defender CA6150.
Consider the two-model kit if you want both the listed residential-alarm role and supplemental low-level monitoring. Check the package contents and follow each unit's installation instructions and applicable local requirements. View the Defender combination kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the LL6270 sound an alarm at 5 ppm?
No. At 5 ppm, it displays the detected CO level within one minute. Its low-level visual alert is specified at 9 ppm within ten minutes, and its audible alert at 15 ppm within sixty minutes.
Can LL6270 replace a required UL-listed residential CO alarm?
No. LL6270 is a supplemental monitor and, by design, is not UL-listed. It automatically displays CO from 5 ppm, provides a visual alert at 9 ppm within ten minutes, and an audible alert at 15 ppm within sixty minutes. Use it alongside an appropriate listed residential CO alarm.
Do I need to press a button to see the current CO reading?
No. Detected readings from 5-500 ppm are displayed automatically. The display button is used to access memory information.
Are the batteries replaceable?
No. The two lithium batteries are factory sealed and non-removable. See the manual for activation, service and replacement instructions.
How often should the monitor be replaced?
Defender recommends replacement every three years to maintain display accuracy as the sensor ages. This recommendation is separate from the unit's end-of-life indication.
Can I use LL6270 in an RV, vehicle or unheated garage?
The manufacturer does not design this model for vehicles or unconditioned spaces. Use it only in suitable indoor conditions within its specified operating limits.
