Product Description
Tramex MEX5 Digital Dual-Depth Pinless Moisture Meterr
The Tramex Moisture Encounter MEX5 is a professional digital, dual-depth, pinless moisture meter for building inspections, water damage restoration, wood flooring and building-envelope investigations. It combines non-destructive moisture testing with a built-in ambient hygrometer, infrared surface thermometer, Bluetooth reporting and optional pin and in-situ relative humidity probe capability.
Important: External pin probes and Hygro-i2 relative humidity probes are optional accessories and are not included unless specifically stated in the retail package. Comparative readings on drywall, masonry and other non-wood materials are not percentage moisture content measurements.
Why Choose the Tramex MEX5?
- Compare shallow and deeper moisture: selectable penetration up to 3/8 in. (9 mm) shallow and 1-1/4 in. (30 mm) deep.
- Survey building materials without damaging surfaces: material-specific wood, drywall/roofing, plaster/tile and masonry scales.
- Monitor indoor conditions: built-in ambient relative humidity, temperature, dew point, humidity ratio and psychrometric functions.
- Check surface temperature: integrated infrared thermometer supports surface and delta-temperature investigations.
- Expand your testing: add compatible pin electrodes for material-specific readings or Hygro-i2 probes for in-situ RH measurements.
- Document your findings: Bluetooth connection with the Tramex Meters App supports geotagging, moisture maps, reports and charts.
Which Tramex Moisture Meter Should You Choose?
Choose a meter based on the material and measurement method—not simply the number of features. The ME5 and MEX5 are designed for broad building-material moisture investigation, while the CME5 and CMEX5 are calibrated for quantitative non-destructive concrete testing.
- Tramex ME5 – analog dual-depth pinless building-material meter
- Tramex MEX5 – digital dual-depth meter with built-in hygrometer and IR thermometer
- Tramex CME5 – quantitative non-destructive concrete moisture meter
- Tramex CMEX5 – digital concrete meter with ambient RH and optional in-situ RH probes
ME5 vs. MEX5: Select the ME5 for straightforward analog dual-depth pinless surveying. Choose the MEX5 for digital readouts, built-in environmental measurements, infrared surface temperature and optional pin/RH probe expansion. Concrete: For quantitative concrete moisture measurements, select a CME5 or CMEX5. The MEX5 can support in-situ concrete RH testing with compatible optional probes but its masonry comparative scale is not a quantitative concrete moisture-content reading.
Professional Applications for the MEX5
Use the MEX5 to investigate moisture in wood, drywall, roofing, plaster, tile, masonry and building assemblies; map suspected water damage; compare affected and reference areas; and track drying progress. The baseline-reference function helps compare readings with a known dry area or drying target. Metal, material density, coatings and assembly construction can affect non-destructive readings; follow the manufacturer guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the MEX5 include pin or RH probes?
Not necessarily. The meter supports compatible optional pin and Hygro-i2 RH probes; confirm the contents of this individual-meter offer before ordering.
Can the MEX5 measure moisture through finished surfaces?
Its non-destructive scales can help compare moisture conditions in appropriate assemblies. Shallow-depth testing can reduce influence from underlying material, but results depend on construction, material and surface conditions.
Does the MEX5 measure concrete moisture percentage?
No. Its masonry scale is comparative. For quantitative non-destructive concrete moisture measurements choose the Tramex CME5 or CMEX5; optional in-situ RH probes serve a different concrete testing method.
What is the difference between shallow and deep modes?
The shallow signal penetrates up to approximately 9 mm (3/8 in.), while regular depth reaches up to approximately 30 mm (1-1/4 in.), depending on material. Not every material scale has a shallow-depth option.
Does the MEX5 connect to a phone?
Yes. Bluetooth connectivity works with the Tramex Meters App for documenting and sharing readings, maps and reports.
Which manual should I use?
Tramex supplies separate version 1 and version 2 guides. On the meter, go to Menu > Settings > Information to identify firmware version before choosing the correct instructions.
